Presented by Eka | Est. run time 1hr.

    This workshop will be recorded.

A show-and-tell about extra-illustration, a crazy hobby that really kicked off in late 18th century Britain. This old school version of fanbinding involved enhancing a single beloved book by pasting in pictures cut out of other books. We'll go over a brief history of extra-illustration, flip through 3 examples of extra-illustrated books from the early 1900s, and then have some time at the end for discussion, horror and/or delight at wanton book destruction, and questions.

    Open to all experience levels.

    This workshop will be recorded.

A walkthrough of the tools I use to imitate digital formats for typesetting, using an iMessage conversation and a news story as practice examples. I use Google Docs to typeset, so this will be Docs-specific but most (if not all) of what we’re doing can be adapted to other programs. For this class, I’ll assume you have a basic familiarity with your typesetting program, but I’ll go through how to use the other things we’ll need during the meeting.

You’ll want access to MS Paint (or equivalent) and the ability to screenshot, as well as the browser extension WhatFont. If you’ll be following along in Google Docs, you should use the Google Chrome browser—there’s a point-size issue with other browsers that causes problems for typesetting like this.

If you’d like to work on something specific, you’re more than welcome to have those ready and we can take a crack at it after the walkthrough.

This workshop is for a Beginner level.
