Code of Conduct & Safety Rules

CODE OF CONDUCT

  1. DRAMA SEEKING BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

    • Be considerate and respectful of all attendees and their views/opinions. Ship and let ship.

    • Do not make assumptions about, or use language that is demeaning towards, someone’s: gender, gender identity or appearance, sexual orientation, disability or health conditions, physical appearance, race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, political views, or affiliation. 

    • Remember that Renegade is queer inclusive, not queer exclusive. Allies, closeted folks, and queers alike are all welcome.

    • Do not engage in personal attacks: keep any criticisms related to the topic, not the person saying it.

  2. Do not post photos on any public or social media site that include any identifiable parts of attendees (including faces, hair, tattoos, name badges, etc.) unless you have explicit permission from all attendees in the photo. (And if someone withdraws permission later for any reason, you must delete the photo.) This includes the main Renegade server, with the exception of the private #retreat-2027 channel.

  3. Respect the venue’s rules and policies, including posted signage or information conveyed through Retreat announcements and communications. This includes but is not limited to the following:

    • This is a dry retreat, per the venue’s policies on alcohol and substances.

    • Do not touch any bookshelves / decor that do not belong to the Retreat.

    • No paints, acrylic inks, or other liquid colorants are permitted in the venue. 

  4. Respect Renegade policies, including designated cleaning periods and scheduled events.

  5. Leave property and equipment in the condition you found it, whether it’s venue property or equipment from a fellow attendee. Attendees are responsible for any damage they cause.

  6. Talk to a Renegade mod if you see or experience any concerning behavior. If your behavior is deemed a problem and a Renegade mod pulls you aside, you will receive one warning. Failure to take a mod’s warning seriously or the receipt of multiple warnings will result in expulsion from the event. Depending on the severity of the behavior, this may also result in barring from future Renegade events at the mods’ discretion. Event mods are your mods first and friends second.

  7. If you need to leave early for any reason, Renegade is not responsible for refunding your expenses or arranging your transportation.

SAFETY RULES

  1. All attendees are responsible for their own safety when attending a Renegade event. By submitting a deposit and agreeing to these rules, you agree not to hold Renegade Bookbuilding Guild liable for injuries you sustain at an event.

  2. Guillotines and/or palm sanders may not be brought into the venue. Members are welcome to bring guillotines in their vehicle trunks and offer supervised guillotining at their own liability. Renegade is not responsible for any injuries or damage to equipment as a result of using a guillotine outside of the venue. 

    • Use of other personal trimming tools must be supervised by the owner of the tool, not mods. This includes but is not limited to: ploughs, chisels, the age-old ruler + exacto knife combo, etc.

      • Everyone at the event is at different skill levels. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and don’t assume the person next to you knows what to do when borrowing your tools.

      • Renegade is not responsible if you injure yourself at this event.

    • If you want to perform any craft that would require a respirator (e.g., hand-sand edges smooth), you must do so outside, not inside the venue. 

  3. Sharps Safety must be observed in any area where craft knives or other sharp objects are being used. That means:

    • Close/cap/retract blades when they are not in your hand actively being used.

    • Carry sharps point-down (blade covered or retracted) or in a pouch.

    • Do not gesticulate with blades, awls, or needles in hand.

    • Use common sense. Renegade is not responsible if you injure yourself at this event. 

  4. If you are unsure how to use a tool, do not guess! Ask for instruction. We all were (and are) new to things at one point or another. Use this event as a hands-on opportunity to learn a new skill! 

  5. Attendees may not be barefoot at any time. Closed-toe shoes are required in restrooms and crafting/workshop areas, or anywhere sharps are present. In other areas, socks-only may be permitted.

OTHER RULES & REMINDERS

  1. Come prepared with everything you need to craft whatever you want to craft. Outside of provided workshop supplies, please do not expect materials or tools to be provided for you.

  2. If you want to share your materials or tools and offer them for communal use, please label them and keep an eye on them. You are responsible for your own possessions.

  3. Always ask permission to use someone else’s tools before helping yourself.  

  4. If you are ever uncomfortable, speak with a mod. We are here to ensure everyone is comfortable and having a good time at the event.
